Hi, I’m Brett King

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a helper. Even as a teenager, my heart was happiest when I was helping someone learn. That joy took me on a professional journey into education and then counseling.

As a classroom teacher and school leader working with children and teenagers, I discovered that families matter. Parents matter. The quality of relationships with those closest to us often determines the quality of our lives. As a dad, I get that. That’s why I became a marriage and family therapist. Because we all need a little help sometimes. Help to experience what we had hoped for but may have been lost. Or broken. Or yet to be discovered.

Couples Therapy

Good couples therapy makes a difference. I know. I’ve been on the couch. It’s what motivates me to be the best couples therapist I can be. Couples therapy is not just part of what I do as a therapist, it’s most of what I do as a therapist. While I have the academic credentials and specific training to work with couples, it’s not just an academic exercise. It’s a heart passion. I love seeing couples grow, and connect, and heal.

Betrayal Recovery

Couples often seek couples therapy because there has been a betrayal of trust. Whether it’s been an affair or an addiction or a secret life that’s been discovered, there is help. For many couples, a crisis can be the catalyst to a better, more fulfilling relationship. There is no greater honor for me than to be a guide on that journey of healing and restoration.

 Addiction recovery

In my work as the Director of Family Services for an addiction treatment center, I’ve helped couples recover when one or both have struggled with substance, alcohol, or sex addiction. There can be a unique shame that comes with addiction and I use unique tools to help. I take a firm yet compassionate and non-shaming approach with couples in recovery.

Discernment Counseling

Sometimes relationships end. And sometimes couples come to counseling to decide if it’s time to move on or work to move closer. I use a deliberate process called discernment counseling to assist couples in making intentional decisions about their future together, or apart.
